I'm not here...

...as in, in my art and on my website.

Mentally

I'm obviously thinking more about my upcoming wedding (it's in two months, eek!). Now that a lot of that is done, I'm also starting to think about personal stuff for next year - things I need to sort out for my health, around the house, tattoos, hobbies; the list goes on.

I guess there is a small part of my brain mentally in my art, as one of the things I've been thinking about for next year is what project(s) I want to start planning. What art habits I want to get back into. What paintings and sketches to start first.

Have absolultely no idea what one(s) I'm going to do!

Physically? Digitally?

I'm not really on social media for my art anymore. I know I 'need' to have a presence, but I don't have anything worthwhile to say right now. Even when I do have something to show, I'm so burnt out from social media, and I can't bear the thought of trying to get back into scheduling and planning for basically no payoff.

Want to help?

If you're reading this, you're probably a subscriber - which means you've already helped. Thank you! If you're not, though, that is the best thing you can do for me. You can enter your email in the pop-up or in the footer on this website. I email once a month. Very occasionally I might email again if there's a shop update or event.

Why is being a subscriber so important?

Because social media algorithms mean you never see the updates you want to see! That's why people are talking about going back to Myspace! But an email reminder of this blog/newsletter is (semi) reliable. Well, at least if you're someone who checks your email...

What creative stuff HAVE I been doing, then?

Just so I don't feel like I've completely abandoned art, I want to remind myself of what I have been doing for the wedding:

  • Regularly sketching portraits, practicing a sketchy/cross-hatching kind of style.

  • Painting and adding hardware to little plaster skulls for accessories.

  • Making bracelets from chain and beads.

  • Learned how to use my Speedy Stitcher, then used it to replace the buckles on my shoes.

  • Sculpted and painted a piece that will hold our rings.

  • Learned how to use my badge press and had a lot of fun making badges.

Some of these things will definitely cross over into the 'business' side of my creativity and art. This list is also longer than I expected, so just goes to show it's good to reflect back!

Recently read and watched

  • I finished reading Persuasion by Jane Austen which is not remotely horror related so I'll just say I didn't mind it (which is a massive improvement on the extreme dislike I had for other Jane Austen works I've read).

  • Now reading Letters from the Earth by Mark Twain. It's a series of letters written from the point of view of Satan, who is sarcastically providing his observations of us mere mortals. It's fun, and I started reading it because I listen to the podcast The Devil's Details who are currently covering it.

  • My fiance and I finished watching 12 Monkeys the TV show and it continued to be shit and I continued to hate it.

  • Now watching Season 3 of Silo, which continues to be great.

As usual, I'm surprised how far my stream of conciousness writing has gotten me - enough that I have an actual newsletter. Phew! It will be interesting to see how the 13 October and 13 November newsletters are, with my wedding not long after in November.
