Hello, my small troupe of quiet followers. I have another daily drawing challenge to show you, and the first look at my recent book cover designs!
Morgan whispers to herself, will anyone notice that it's Friday the 13th again and she still hasn't written a themed blog?
MerMay
After taking a break in March and April, I got back into a daily drawing challenge with MerMay. If you hadn't figured it out, it's mermaid-themed. I enjoyed having humanoid elements to play with, but I don't think I drew anything as original or outside of my comfort zone as I did with previous challenges. Regardless, I regularly did a quick sketch and as you know, that is all that matters.
See all of the MerMay sketches below.

I'm currently doing JuneBug (drawing bugs... in June... see Instagram for posts) which is... definitely not me venturing outside of my comfort zone but this time it was on purpose. I've been feeling a bit swamped with planning my first trip ever to Oamaru for the Steampunk Festival, which made me feel a bit behind on planning a different trip AND planning a wedding, alongside my day job and normal household stuff. I'm not actually "behind" on any of that, but I tend to self-impose deadlines, and to me on time = late.
Speaking of late, I have utterly failed on self-imposed deadlines for book cover designs...
Premade Book Covers
I've mentioned my interest in book cover design, and you may have seen my sneak previews on Instagram. One of my projects this year has been to create book covers, and part of that involves turning my existing artwork into premades.
For those that don't know, premade book covers are a cheaper alternative for authors who can't afford (or just don't want to pay, I guess) for a custom original artwork. The design is already done (pre... made...) and just the text details are updated (Title, Author, Blurb, etc).
I have created two premade designs. At this point the intent was to have an amount more than two made, and the shop set up for them already. That clearly hasn't happened. I'm usually pretty good at giving myself reasonable timeframes and then working hard to complete work before the deadline. My struggle has been more of a learning curve with some of the technology I thought I was familiar with, and to be honest, just a change in priorities. I didn't know I would be planning a wedding when I made my project plan!
All of that is ok, things change and I will adapt my plan to suit. That means I can't yet tell you when these two designs will be in the shop, or when more designs will be available.
If you are interested, what you can do is:
