Welcome to my first deep(ish) dive into the process of a painting! You may remember from a previous post that I submitted an artwork for the Facebook group Books of Horror. This was for donating art that would be made into t-shirts for them. I didn't win, but I took this as an opportunity to test out some filming and see how I might want to do these posts in future.
The first thing I found is that using the overhead camera like this is pointless for a huge amount of the process. I like having overhead light to paint, so there is a lot of footage of a seemingly blank, white piece of paper...
(Also, see me in full goblin mode with the hoodie and blanket combo.)
However, I had enough (visible) footage to make a full video, which is at the very end of this post. I'm not sure if I want to do full videos, or do gifs of certain stages. Let me know in the comments what you think.
Below are stills showing the progress. I like the idea of having these down the side of the blog with my commentary, but to be honest this is quite a simple design and I don't have a huge amount to say about it!
What do you want to know about my process? Do you have any questions about this specific artwork or my art in general? Do you prefer videos or stills?
Here is the video of the full(ish) process:
It's missing the intro and outro of my older videos as I have probably lost those plus all my old footage due to an external hard drive issue. Just a chance for a fresh start (and an excuse not to edit the five or so years of footage I didn't touch).
Let me know what you want to see, and I'll keep that in mind when I film future projects. Comment below with your thoughts and questions! In the meantime, my old videos are here on YouTube.
